Think of just how often we mention our hearts.

Hearts are synonymous with love, and Valentine’s Day immediately comes to mind. The perceived shape for the heart is the universal symbol for love.

In honor of National Heart Health Month, Brigham City Community Hospital and H2U will present “The Happy, Healthy Heart” Healthy Conversation on Tuesday, February 5th at 6 p.m.

This program will be held at the Davis/ Bott Building, 50 W. Forest St., in Brigham City. Pre-registration is required, call 435.734.4377. There is no cost to attend this presentation.

The heart is the most complex and vital muscle in the body, thus it is important to keep it happy and healthy. Dr. Michael J. Diehl, M.D., is an expert in diagnosing heart conditions and problems.

Dr. Diehl will discuss the following:

  • What is heart disease and what are the causes?
  • Diet and exercise for maintaining heart health
  • Common conditions and problems
  • Identifying heart attacks – when to call 911
  • How heart disease and other problems are diagnosed
  • Treatments for the damaged heart

Attendees are invited to enjoy light refreshments and linger after to speak privately with Dr. Diehl.

Dr. Michael J. Diehl earned a Fellowship at University of Minnesota, completed Residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, and attended Medical School at Brown University. He is a cardiologist at Northern Utah Cardiologists Associates.

If refreshments and expert advice aren’t enough to convince you to join us in celebrating Heart Health Month, check out these statistics provided by the U.S. Government:

●       About 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year–that’s 1 in every 4 deaths.

●       Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. More than half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2009 were in men.

●       Coronary heart disease is the most common type of heart disease, killing more than 385,000 people annually.

●       Every year about 935,000 Americans have a heart attack. Of these, 610,000 are a first heart attack. 325,000 happen in people who have already had a heart attack.

●       Coronary heart disease alone costs the United States $108.9 billion each year. This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity.

Now be proactive about your cardiovascular health—be heart smart and we’ll see you on February 5th at our free seminar.
